--------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS --------------------------------------------------- IFIP TC5 Special Interest Group on Architectures for Enterprise Integration
WORKING CONFERENCE ON
MODELS AND METHODOLOGIES FOR ENTERPRISE INTEGRATION
(EI95)
8-11 November, 1995 Heron Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia ---------------------------------------------------
Enterprise Integration and Enterprise Engineering has become a focal point of discussions during the past few years with active contribution of many disciplines.
The evolution from the concept of CAD/CAM, through CIM to the Integrated Enterprise is based on the assumption that the integrated enterprise can (and should) be engineered just as any complex system can. Ingredients of this approach are:
- Modelling Languages, Ontological Theories, and Generic Models to facilitate the production of descriptions of the enterprise on various levels of formality, and from various aspects;
- Enterprise Engineering Methodologies which can be followed to turn an enterprise into a competitive, agile system, capable of surviving on a global market;
- Enterprise Reference Architectures (describing product- and enterprise life-cycles);
- Enterprise Engineering Tools allowing a computer simulation and analysis of enterprise models, and enabling experimentation with various factors, e.g., functionality, cost, quality, and agility.
OBJECTIVES ==========
The purpose of the conference is to
- Discuss the state of the art in enterprise engineering based on enterprise modelling and associated methodologies and architectures;
- Analyse the needs of the enterprise engineering / enterprise integration user community and the way present techniques meet these requirements;
- Identify the most promising results for enterprise engineering as well as research results which could transform the field in the medium term future.
The Conference is planned to be discussion oriented, with approximately 40-60 participants, each of whom will contribute to the conference either by a full paper or a position paper.
A limited number of non-contributory audience will be allowed, mainly from industry; if you are interested in this category, please send a short professional CV to the address below.
The Conference will be organised around major questions -- where papers in that area will be presented shortly and an evaluation paper of the area will be given by invited speakers. This will then be followed by a general discussion of the area, where transcripts of the discussion are taken for the proceedings, to appear as a book.
All participants will receive a copy of the preprints ahead of time to be able to actively prepare for the discussions.
The location has been selected to allow close interaction of participants in unique surroundings.
MAJOR QUESTIONS ===============
- Tools for Enterprise Modelling -- Requirements and Design Issues
- Languages: Integrating Enterprise Models (Language Design and Ontological Modelling) - Gaining Advantage Though the Use Of Enterprise Reference Architectures
- The Role of Enterprise Engineering Methodologies
- The Role of Recently Popularised Approaches in Enterprise Integration (e.g., concurrent engineering, re-engineering, co-ordination science etc)
- Significant Opportunities and Generic Building Blocks (reusable partial models, agent based integration, etc). Will They Beat the Complexity of Enterprise Engineering?
SUBMISSION ==========
Please let the organisers know as soon as possible of your intention to attend.
Four hard copies of full papers or short position papers are due by 1 May, 1995. Full papers should not exceed 12,000 words (preferably 15-20 pages). Position papers not exceeding 2,500 words (preferably 3-5 pages).
If you want to attend the working conference in the attendee-only category (without paper submission), please send a professional CV no later then 1 May 1995 but as soon as possible.
Both full papers and position papers will be refereed by the International Programme Committee. Participation is by invitation based on the above submissions. The International Programme Committee reserves the right to nevertheless invite distinguished participants without them submitting any of the above.
Authors will be notified by the end of June 1995 of the acceptance of their papers. Invitations to attend will be sent out accordingly.
The camera ready copy of papers (to appear in the preprints) will be due 31 August.
IMPORTANT DATES ===============
Papers due: 1 May 1995 Notification of acceptance: 30 June 1995 Revised papers for preprints due: 31 August 1995
SEND PAPERS TO ==============
Mrs Denise Vercoe c/o School of Computing and Information Technology Griffith University Nathan Queensland 4111 Australia
phone: +61-7-875 5002 fax: +61-7-875 5051 email: ei95@cit.gu.edu.au
Please use AIR MAIL (or international courier) because ordinary surface mail takes three months to get to Australia (air mail takes seven days and international courier takes three days).
PUBLICATION ===========
Preprints will be made available to participants before the conference to allow preparation for discussions.
A book containing revised versions of papers and the transcript of discussions is being negotiated with the official IFIP Publisher
LOCATION ========
Heron Island is a Coral cay in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef . The small island is 72 kilometres off the Queensland coast and is reached by catamaran (2 hours) or by helicopter (30 minutes) from Gladstone. Gladstone is 6 hours drive or 70 minutes by plane from Brisbane and can also be reached by rail.
The temperatures in November are approximately air: 18-29C(64-84F) water: 22-28C(72-83F).
The Giant Turtles begin laying their eggs in November, and this is usually the month for the annual synchronised mass spawning of corals, an event that really stimulates the fish activity.
The conference timetable will be adjusted to tropical Queensland weather and allow time to be taken for the exploration of the Reef by reef walks, snorkeling, submarine reef viewing, and other activities.
The small island has a tropical village atmosphere and has excellent conference facilities. Only casual clothes are necessary.
