Conference on Joining Information Infrastructure and Technology Management for Global Enterprises

Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign October 11 - 12, 1995

Purpose of Conference

We are entering a new era of information technology research and development brought about by industrial, economical, political, and social changes that are helping to shape a new technological landscape. The more prominent of these factors include the advance of the information technology revolution, the emerging national information infrastructure for commerce, and the ever-shorter product cycles that make information technology capabilities an important core competence for global enterprises.

The vision of an "information superhighway" has facilitated the formation of an information-oriented economy: commerce travels on electronic networks. These developments have major implications for the role of information technology in businesses. Every type of company today, manufacturing or service alike, rely upon information technology to build the business infrastructure, to increase productivity, and to explore new sources for strategic advantages.

The conference will feature paper sessions and panel discussions on the National Information Infrastructure, the Impact of Information Technology on Product Development Strategies, the Management of Technology in Global Enterprises, and Emerging Information Technologies for Rapid Product Design and Development.
