Information Systems during the Information Revolution: Methods, Tools and Architectures

Capri, Italy September 8-13 , 1997 ===============================================================

Promoted and Sponsored by the EDBT Foundation Organized by IASI-CNR in Cooperation with the University of Toronto

The EDBT Summer School for 1997 will take place in Capri during the week of September 8. The summer school is sponsored and promoted by the EDBT Foundation and organised by the Institute for System Analysis and Informatics, CNR-IASI.The school is intended for young researchers looking for interesting research problems, professionals who want to find out the latest trends in their field, and graduate students begining their reseach career. This year, the subject matter for the school addresses recent and strategic innovations that will characterise, both methodologically and technologically, the next generation of Information Systems. The school programme consists of seven teaching units which are intended to offer an overview of formal foundations, as well as significant coverage of the state of the art. The teaching units will be given by distinguished members of the scientific community.

The school will take place at the Hotel "La Palma" in Capri. Lectures and other organized events are intended to allow attendees and speakers to freely interact during the whole week.

PROGRAMME

The school programme is organised in two sections which together consist of seven teaching units, and two additional units. Each unit takes half a day: three hours with an intermediate half-hour break, except on Monday, with a shorter welcome unit and a longer introductory teaching unit. The default timetable for the week is:

> Morning session: 9,00 - 12,30
> Lunch break: 12,30 - 4,00 (free)
> Afternoon session: 4,00 - 7,30
> Course Dinner: 8,00 - 9,30

The two sections are:

"Methods and Tools" - which focuses on new approaches for building and evolving Next-Generation Information Systems.

"Systems Technologies and Architectures" - which focuses on generic technologies and surrounding technical issues that determine the architectures, the operations, and the life-cycle of Next-Generation Information Systems.

On Friday afternoon there will be a Poster Session dedicated to the attendees wishing to present and discuss their work, both problems and research results, with other participants. On Saturday morning there will be a final panel to summarise what has been presented during the course and to draw impressions and/or conclusions on the state of the art in research and practice.

An extended version of the school programme can be found at the web page: http://www.iasi.rm.cnr.it/conferences/edbt_ss97/
