In 1989, I wrote a book which was published by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. A New CIM Model: A Blueprint for the Computer-integrated Manufacturing Enterprise, introduced a methodology which enabled management and technical professionals to build and share a joint vision (model) of the business enterprise as an integrated entity.

Fundamental to the book was the idea that unless there is a shared conceptual integrated blueprint of the enterprise, there will be no logical or physical integration of management, people, technology, and business functions.

Since the initial publishing. I have further refined and enhanced the methodology. I have used it with companies like McDonald's International and BellSouth. It is an effective way to communicate and facilitate the complex problem of enterprise integration. Further, it provides an excellent vehicle to incorporate enterprise integration into a business strategy framework'. It also enables integrated organizational structures and promotes integrated management actions (policy) in accordance with an EIA and "IT alignment audit" review process.
