ICEIS 2001 is a large international conference on the area of =
"Enterprise Information Systems" focusing mostly on applications, =
methodologies and technologies relevant for business organisations. The =
conference will be held from 7 to 10 July 2001 in the School of =
Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Set=FAbal (Portugal).

More than 300 researchers and practitioners are expected, coming from =
more than 30 countries from all over the world, to discuss several =
topics concerning different aspects of "Enterprise Information =
Systems". This theme is raising a huge interest both in business and in =
the academia, and ICEIS provides the ideal forum for promoting the =
meeting of both researchers and practitioners and experience exchange.

About 150 technical communications, previously selected by an =
international committee of more than 95 Ph.D. experts in the various =
conference areas, will be presented and also made available at the =
conference site both in book format and CD-ROM format.
The conference thematic areas are mainly related to the application of =
Information Technology and Information Systems to:=20
(i) Databases and Information Systems Integration;=20
(ii) Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems;=20
(iii) Information Systems Analysis and Specification; and=20
(iv) Internet Computing and Electronic Commerce.

It should be emphasised the high number of invited keynote lectures, =
presented by distinguished speakers coming from some of the most =
prestigious Universities in the World, such as Stanford and the MIT =
(USA).
There will be a panel, at the conference opening, where these =
distinguished speakers will debate, with the audience, several aspects =
related to the social impact of Enterprise Information Systems and =
Information Technologies on the XXIst century organisations.

Besides technical communications, a series of case-study applications in =
the area of Enterprise Information Systems will also be presented, by =
Portuguese companies.
On July 6 and 7, three workshops will be held on very specific subjects, =
namely:=20
(i) Pattern Recognition in Information Systems;=20
(ii) New Developments on Digital Libraries; and=20
(iii) Open Distributed Processing.=20
