Conference Objectives
It is increasingly evident that effective and efficient management of collaborative supply chain partnerships is key to an organizations' business vitality. The Internet has emerged as an enabling global information infrastructure for supply chain management and electronic commerce involving business-to-business interactions. Papers examining business strategies and information technologies that enable collaborative, synchronous supply chain management are sought for presentation at the International Conference on Supply Chain Management. Special emphasis is placed on the systems and processes that support the flow of information between enterprises, as it occurs in the context of procurement, manufacturing, sales, and distribution of goods, information and services.
The purpose of this conference is to coalesce and present Supply Chain Management research advances in industry, government and academe. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce and leading industrial practitioners of supply chain management methodologies will discuss the challenges and opportunities in managing supply, procurement and distributions channels. Researchers from academe and industry of international repute will present and discuss fundamental research advances at the Conference. Scope of the Conference
To comply with those objectives, the Conference will comprise both position papers for open discussion and current work papers, study cases based, on application-oriented developments. Participation from the industry is very much encouraged. Case studies and empirical research on supply chain management are strongly encouraged. All sessions will be set to allow for in-depth open discussion. Thematic panels will further provide room for discussion and assessment. A general round table will conclude the two conference days. It will summarize the Conference contributions and the recommendations that will be included in a written Conference report.
The topics covered by the Conference include but are not limited to: o Modeling and Analysis of Supply Chain Management Systems
Application of operational research, control theory models, and theory of constraints has been primarily used in solving the problems within a single business enterprise. The key motivation of this topic is to investigate and report the applicability of these and other related methodologies in the context of the extended enterprise, i.e., the supply chain. Presentations analyzing commercial solutions based on ERP, MRP, and MRP II type systems among others for the extended enterprise are also encouraged.
o Information Architectures for Supply Chain Management
Papers in this topic will focus on architecture frameworks that enable seamless information exchange among supply chain partners that vary in size and scope. Such architectures need to be scalable, interoperable, extensible, secure, robust, and must be based on open standards - du jour and de facto. Papers focusing on performance evaluation of information architectures vis-à-vis these criteria are encouraged. Articles on emerging Internet and middleware technologies, and commercial solutions from industry are encouraged.
o Intelligent Agent Methodologies minimizing ``bullwhip effect'' in Supply Chains
Distortion of information as it travels upstream - from the point of sale to the raw material supplier in the supply chain, is known to cause serious inefficiencies, resulting in what is known as the ``bullwhip effect.'' Intelligent agent methodologies such as fuzzy sets, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems and data mining approaches have been employed to minimize the effect of noise in the supply chains. Papers with real-life empirical case studies in this area are strongly encouraged.
o B2B E-commerce
Business-to-business electronic commerce constitutes one of the core functionalities that must be supported by the supply chain infrastructure. This topic will focus on papers in business strategies, information architecture and security considerations for B2B e-commerce.
o Industrial Applications and Case Studies
