The Division has established a project which aims to develop software based decision support systems for the concurrent design of products and processes. We require a highly skilled Manufacturing Systems Engineer to carry out research in manufacturing systems in close collaboration with industry partners.
This position will provide an excellent opportunity for involvement in collaborative industrial research in the field of Concurrent Engineering. The work requires that you have a PhD or equivalent skills and knowledge in Manufacturing Systems and a high level of knowledge about state-of-the-art Concurrent Engineering solutions and world-wide research trends. You will also have a high level of expertise in advanced manufacturing and in software development. Experience in developing large integrated systems would be an advantage. This is a three year term position.

The Project and its Objectives:To develop software based decision support systems for the concurrent design of products and processes. The systems will help to reduce lead time to market for new products and provide assessments of the cost effectiveness of product designs in terms of customer/market definitions, manufacturing costs, and lead times to manufacture. The main thrust is to reduce the time required for the iterative product and process design and to resolve the uncertainties in product manufacturing costs and the lead times for manufacture. Work Activities and Areas of Responsibility
1. Research in manufacturing methodologies for concurrent engineering. 2. Structure information elements and practices. 3. Design and develop software. 4. A high level of expertise gained through experience in Advanced Manufacturing. 4. Demonstrated results in software development. 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-skilled team. 6. Evidence of well developed communication skills and the ability to interact with industry personnel. Desirable: 1. Familiarity with software tools, including integration, communication, databases, distributed processes, and groupware EDI. 2. Experience in developing large integrated systems.
