CONCURRENT ENGINEERING: Research and Applications (CERA) -- An International Journal

SPECIAL ISSUE on: Enterprise Management and Integration

Concurrent engineering is a systematic approach to the integrated, concurrent design of products and their processes, including manufacture and support. This approach leads developers, from the outset, to consider all the stages of the product life cycle, from conceptual through disposal, including quality, cost, schedule, and customer requirements. Early consideration of later phases of the life-cycle leads to no downstream problems. It also supports intelligent and informed decision-making throughout the process.

We will consider papers that discuss architectures for supporting virtual teams, decision-support tools, and design rationale as well as those that concentrate on more theoretical issues such as specifications of shared languages, constraint-based problem solving, and negotiation. Papers are requested on topics concerned enterprise management and integration. In particular, we are soliciting papers dealing with various aspects of enterprise integration such as assessing an organization's readiness, re- engineering enterprise processes, CE metrics, agile manufacturing, and virtual enterprise. Also, papers related to the following topics are welcome for the special issue:

-Modelling manufacturing resources, processes, and strategies to support concurrent engineering -Designing performance measurement systems for improving the application of the concurrent engineering process -Experience from implementing concurrent engineering systems in real life environments -The role of multimedia in enterprise management and integration -Decision support systems for integrating organizational decision making -Improving communication and decision making within quality function deployment

Manuscripts should be no more than 25 double-spaced pages in length including all figures and references. Papers must not have been previously published or be currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Initial abstracts and manuscripts should have a title page including the authors' full names, affiliations, physical and e-mail addresses. Papers must be double spaced, single-sided, on 8.5" x 11" paper, with 1" margins all around, in a 12 point font. Final manuscripts must meet the guidelines for the CERA Journal set forth by CERA Institute -- these appear inside the back cover of the journal. Papers will be reviewed by at least 3 reviewers. The following is the schedule for the special issue:

1 to 2 page abstract due before January 15, 1996 Five copies of full manuscript due February 15, 1996 Notification of acceptance March 15, 1996 Final version of manuscript due May 15, 1996 Send to publisher June 1, 1996 Special issue September 1996 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
